SYNOPSIS

“As an inhuman army of unknown origin rips apart her homeland, a young girl discovers within herself a well of mystical power that she neither wants nor understands.

Together with her sister and an old sage, she strikes out across the war-torn countryside, searching for the truth behind an ancient family secret that could save the world from annihilation”

WORLD

It’s 1866, and Japan is reeling amidst political and social upheaval, having recently ended centuries of isolation by opening its doors to Western trade. Across the Pacific, the United States has been overrun by an illness called “the hunger”: an insidious infection that mutates its victims into savage demons and compels them to devour every living creature they can find. When a refugee ship accidentally unleashes this sickness onto Japanese soil, the already precarious nation is suddenly pitched into a nightmarish battle for its own survival.

Tucked away in the western Japanese mountains, Aiko, the teenage daughter of a rural daimyo lord, lives a disciplined and peaceful life. When the hunger unleashes chaos into her secluded valley, everything she knows crumbles to ash. With nowhere else to turn, she sets off on a quest to find her long-lost mother and discover the truth behind an ancient family secret that could save Japan from annihilation.
